The sheet is sound, not laid down, but is adhered along the back of the top edge to a separate sheet which is sealed inside the mount. There are one or two tiny specks of foxing in the upper right corner. Generally the work is in excellent original condition with strong colours throughout. While the present work has been frequently exhibited as Peasants in the Pyrenees, John indicated through various correspondence that he in fact never spent time in the Pyrenees, suggesting the title is a misnomer.
