Catalogue Note
"James Grashow elevates everyday materials into whimsical and joyous works of art that celebrate the natural world. Grashow views cardboard as a grateful medium and a short bridge to the act of creation by virtue of its accesibility. His use of humble materials is firmly grounded in the movements of post- war 20th century art. As with many of his contemporaries, Grashow takes common detritus and transforms it into provocative explorations that emphasize the relationship between life and art. Both comical and meticulous, Grashow's technical inventiveness and visionary humor stands in a class of its own."
