Acquired by the Swedish engineer Gustaf Anderstedt in Yaroslavl in the 1930's

Condition

Some minor retouching especially in the silver background of the painting, two missing stones from the seed-pearl garment along the lower border

Catalogue Note

The Tolgskaya Mother of God is named after the Tolga river in Yaroslvl, where the miracle working prototype appeared in 1314. Its iconography is the mirror image of the Vladimirskaya Mother of God except for some minor details such as the position of the legs of the Christ Child.
