A travelling triptych icon of St Nicholas, Russia, 17th century

the central portrait of St Nicholas with a copper oklad within a border painted with the four Evangelists at the corners, the Bogolyubskaya Mother of God to the left, the Deposition of the Mantle of the Mother of God to the right and the Annunciation on the upper border, the upper part of the central panel painted with the Praise of the Mother of God, on the left panel the birth of the Virgin, the Burning Bush and the Meeting of the Vladimirskaya Mother of God, on the right panel the Meeting of Joachim and Anna, the Pokrov and the Dormition, the back of the triptych covered with black leather

In all probability the portrait icon of St Nicholas is a later replacement. Originally an icon of the Vladimirskaya Mother of God must have been the central image of this triptych. Some damage, retouching and wear all over the icon. A lower part of the right wing damaged by a burning candle. In the same wing a small hole due to the iron lock fitted on the outside of the triptych.
