Catalogue Note

Sofia Dragomirova-Lukomskaya (1871-1953) was the daughter of General Mikhail Dragomirov (1830-1905), recipient of the Order of St. George 3rd Class for his actions in the Russo-Turkish conflict of 1877-8. In 1889, Sofia posed for Ilya Repin and his student, Konstantin Serov, dressed in national costume. These portraits hung side by side for many years in the Dragomirov house in St. Petersburg but now form part of the collections of the State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg and the State Museum of Fine Arts, Tatarstan respectively.
