each painted wtih phoenix birds amongst flowers and blue rockwork in a fenced garden, set with gilt biscuit handles. Together with later giltwood stands. 4 pieces.
Condition
One has a long crack running horizontally around the body just below the band of flowers extending approximately half-way around and curving down through the fenced garden painted on one side. There is a further crack running down through one handle dividing in two and extending in two directions towards the foot. There is considerable wear and discoloration to the glaze and the enamels on the interior caused by water. There is extensive fritting of the glaze at the rim edge and around the molded bands at the shoulder, lower body and around the foot. The body has discolored [or shows through the glaze] with a pinkish color in these areas. Both handles are only partially glazed and are lacking their rings
The other has patches of pinkish discoloration to the body, most noticeable on the interior. The enamels are also rubbed on the interior particularly on the base where the green enamel now has a discolored matte appearance. This bowl has similar fritting and glaze loss to the rim and molded bands. There are traces of gilding on these bands suggesting that they were polished back and gilded after firing. The handles are also partially glaze.d
Overall the glaze on both has a slightly dry and irregular appearance.
The wood stands have some splits and losses.
