Catalogue Note
The fine gradations of tone and bright colors of this multifigural composition attest to Imperial Porcelain Manufactory painter V. Kirsanov's ability to communicate the fine details of painter Karl Karlovich Piratskii's (1813-1871) original view of these members of the Uhlan Regiments. Although Piratskii was a Court Artist to Nicholas I and a prolific military painter, today his best known works are his original illustrations for redesigned uniforms worn by the Russian Army after Emperor Alexander II's military reforms of 1855-1856.
