Description

- height of terracotta 7 1/4 in.
- 18.4 cm
her hair falling in ringlets and tied at the top, her shoulders draped in a loose-fitting robe after the antique, on a turned variegated marble socle above an associated ormolu-mounted Northern European blue glass plinth of late 18th century date, the base painted inside with inventory mark D.W. 921 2, the socle with D.W. 921 1 (indistinct).

This bust closely relates to a signed allegorical bust of 'Day' by Clodion, sold Sotheby's Paris, October 18, 2006, lot 78 (See A. Poulet, Clodion, Paris, 1992, p. 427, fig. 251).
