Catalogue Note
Attilio Codoganto is the fourth generation of a firm of Italian jewelers established in Venice in 1822. The firm's pieces draw upon Venice and Italy's heritage: Etruscan, Roman, Byzantine, Renaissance, and 18th century, and they are the official goldsmiths of the Basilica of San Marco. Celebrities including Chanel and Diaghilev, Misia Sert and Jean Cocteau, the Duchess of Windsor, Diana Vreeland, Grace Kelly, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, and Maria FĂ©lix have patronized the shop and been friends with the family (Pierre Hebey, Codoganto, Assouline ).
Most of the Codognato lots, including 62, part of 64, 65, 66, and 153 were purchased directly from the jeweler in 1999.
