Catalogue Note
Fyt was a pupil of Frans Snyders, but after travelling to Italy he returned to Antwerp and established a successful career on his own, primarily producing still lifes and hunting scenes. The Colnaghi exhibition catalogue (op. cit.) notes that in 1642 he published a series of etchings of dogs, dedicated to the Marqués de Solerio. It also mentions several other studies of dogs, including one in Leiden and the other in the Louvre.
