Condition
Overall in good original condition. Some minor losses to the black enamel of the arabic numbers. The ivory in good original condition, with the usual minor staining and hairline age cracks. There is wear to the gilding on the edges of most of the bronze elements.

From its establishment in 1895, and for the following four decades, Edward F. Caldwell and Company of New York ranked amongst the leading American designers of light fixtures, objects of virtue and decorative works of art.
Edward Caldwell's partner was Victor F. von Lossberg, a Russian immigrant and artist. The two acquired their own foundry in 1901 at 38 West Fifteenth Street, New York. Following Caldwell's death in October 1914, the firm carried on under von Lossberg's supervision until the later retired in 1938. Caldwell became a member of the Architectural League of New York in 1882 and was elected a fellow of the Americain Academy in Rome in 1905.
