Catalogue Note

Smoker's Tray IAB was originally part of an 11-piece set including five ash trays and five match boxes.  A period photograph of the complete set is illustrated by Larry Pristo in Martelé 950-1000 Gorham's Art Nouveau Silver, p. 127.  Although the identities of the maker and chaser are unknown, it has been recorded that the set was completed on 4 April 1929-- the tray made in 93 hours and chased for an additional116.5 hours.  The nect factory price of the tray was $600, and $1000 for the set (Pristo, p. 350).
