on lobed, lozenge-shaped base, the ovoid body with slightly flared rim, embossed and chased with water-lilies, cattails and foliage, the handles formed as entwined serpents

Catalogue Note

Gorham's records as reproduced by Larry Pristo in Martelé Gorham's Nouveau Art Silver, p. 287, indicate Loving Cup CMB (incorrectly described as "3-handle") was completed on 25 March 1903 by James Leckenby with a making time of ninety hours. The chasing was executed by Robert Bain and was accomplished in two hundred and eighty-five hours and forty-five minutes. The net factory cost was $600.00. Additionally, the piece has gilding.
