Catalogue Note

Gorham's costing records reveal that this pair of Three-light Candelabra 9703 was completed on 12 March 1901.  The design was adapted from a single candlestick and this three-light model was made as a prototype to determine the feasibility of the style for production.  A notation at the bottom of the cost slip which says "see figuring 11-17-97" indicates that this model had been in development for a long time.

At the time of production the silver used for this candelabra was valued at $39.08.  The names of the silversmith and the chaser were not recorded but the raising was done in Room PP, the "Experimental Room" under the supervision of foreman Joseph Straker, and was done in one-hundred hours.  The chasing was accomplished in an additional eighty-five hours, and had a labor cost of $42.50.  The net factory price was $180 per candelabrum.
