Catalogue Note
First appearing in the factory sales records in 1752, the model for this shape vase was designed by Jean-Claude Duplessis and was made in four versions and sizes, of which the present example is the smallest. A pair of 'pot pourri Pompadour' of the third size is illustrated by Rosalind Savill, The Wallace Collection Catalogue of Sèvres Porcelain, p. 133, nos. C239-40, where the author also provides a full discussion of the model and its variations on pp. 127-335.
