Robert I. Duke of Parma (1848-1907);

Condition

The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is secure and in seemingly good condition, under a yellowed varnish. No major damages are apparent, although there is a small stretch of frame abrasion on the right hand margin and there are a handful of small retouchings in the sky which have discoloured slightly. Inspection under UV light confirms these retouchings and, although impeded by the varnish over the paint surface, reveals very few further retouchings to the painting. There are just a handful of small, scattered spot retouchings to the sitter's face and to the trees to her right. The vast majority of the foreground and the sitter appear unaltered. Offered in an ornate gilt wood and plaster frame with a few cracks but in good condition.
