- 'ARVIN CAL AREA, 300 PLOWING FARMS'
- gelatin silver
flush-mounted, titled in pencil and with the photographer's '3777 El Sereno, Altadena, California, Sycamore 7-8483' studio label, stamped 'copyrighted 1953,' on the reverse, 1952, printed no later than 1956 (Aerial Photographs, pl. 48)
Condition
This striking early print is in generally very good to excellent condition. There is very minor edge wear and the corners are bumped. Upon extremely close inspection, some scattered matte deposits of indeterminate nature are visible. Also visible when viewing the print very closely are a few miniscule deposits of original retouching and tiny, fine scratches that do not break the emulsion.
On the reverse of the mount, there is a crease in the lower left quadrant; this does not affect the image. The photographer's studio label is numbered '#11' in ink. Light soiling from handling is visible on the reverse of the mount.
The photographer's address on the studio label on the reverse of the mount allows us to date this print. The photographer lived at the '3777 El Sereno, Altadena' address until the end of 1956, after which point he moved to '1286 Congress Valley Road, Napa, California.' The Altadena label clearly identifies this print as having been made prior to the move.
