Condition

In addition to the print of this image in the Center for Creative Photography, Tucson, Conger locates prints in the following institutional collections: Harrison Memorial Library, Carmel; Art Institute of Chicago; George Eastman House, Rochester; The J. Paul Getty Museum, Malibu; Huntington Library, San Marino; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Special Collections, University of California, Santa Cruz (a Project Print); and Special Collections, University of California, Los Angeles. This print, on paper with a semi-glossy surface and mounted to light cream-colored board, is in generally very good condition. In raking light, silvering is visible, primarily at the periphery. Also visible in raking light are the following: a few tiny matte deposits, possibly original retouching (most noticeably 2 linear deposits near the right edge); and occasional small and faint surface scratches and impressions that do not appear to break the emulsion (most noticeably a ½-inch soft diagonal scratch in the upper left quadrant). There is a tiny crease that breaks the emulsion in the upper right print corner. There is minor rubbing along the upper print edge. None of the above are immediately apparent and do not in any way detract from the overall fine quality of this print. The mount is slightly bowed. There are stray light red marks on the mount, and light soiling on the reverse. Other prints of this image are reproduced in the following: Supreme Instants, pl. 52; Life Work, pl. 71; California Landscapes, pl. 2; and A Legacy, pl. 96.
