This photograph has not been examined out of its frame, but it appears to be in generally very good condition. As is typical of prints by Peter Beard, the paper is somewhat wavy because it is floating within the frame. The quotation inscribed from Karen Blixen's book, Out of Africa, is as follows: 'In very old days the elephant, upon the roof of the world, led an existence deeply satisfying to himself and fit to be set up as an example to the rest of creation.'
