Description

- 'TWO MOTELS IN LAS CRUCES NEW MEXICO'
- chromogenic print
a diptych of chromogenic prints on a single sheet, signed, titled, dated, and inscribed in ink in the margin, framed, 1986, printed in 1995
Provenance
Gift of the photographer to Alan and Martina Sternfeld, the photographer's brother and sister-in-law
Sotheby's New York, 16 October 2007, Sale 8349, Lot 226
Condition
This print is in generally excellent condition. In raking light, a small handling crease is visible at the right center edge of the right image. The margin area just outside of the images is somewhat sunned, and the print margins are lightly age-darkened. These shifts in the tone on the paper do not appear to have affected the colors of the prints, which appear saturated. In raking light, a number of light handling creases are visible in the margins.
The photographer's ink signature, title, date, and inscription are extremely faded, but can be read in high raking light. The inscription reads: '4 Alan + Martina with love--.' The photographer dates the prints in the margin as follows: 'N - August 1986' and 'P - March 1995.'
