circular, the lid inset  with an oval miniature possibly depicting Mercury escorting  Psyche to her marriage to Cupid, maker's mark, bear's head 3e titre and petite garantie




 

Condition

various small chips to tortoiseshell on both lid and base, also two minor cracks on side of lid, some crimping to interior of lid mount. Miniature in very good condition except for very small amounts of flaking at each side, on edge and some moisture below the glass.

Catalogue Note

François Rochet worked as a mounter of snuff boxes and other objects entering gold and doublé marks for bijouterie : la tabletterie in 1799/1800 from 218 rue Saint-Martin and in 1812 as bijoutier garnisseur : la boîte ronde et de forme from 253 rue Saint-Martin. The business was taken over by his son François-Claude-Victor in 1820/1.
