Condition

The actual painting is a little less blue and softer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The flat panel seems to consist of two horizontal planks. The joint has split slightly to the left side, but is well strengthened with a small batton on the reverse. The panel is bevelled along the edges. The paint surface is well preserved and impasto is visible, e.g. in the trees and in the baskets in the water. No major damages are apparent. The paint surface is under a dirty and discoloured varnish. Inspection under UV light reveals some recent retouchings along the joint on the left, old scattered retouchings in the sky, and only some minimal strengthening in the figures. Offered in a gilt French style plaster and wood frame in good condition (MvE)
