Description
- Nicolaes van Veerendael
- A garland of flowers surrounding a cartouche with the Virgin and Child
- oil on canvas, a fragment
Condition
The painting has more yellow and the colours in general are more vibrant than the catalogue illustration suggests.
The canvas has a stable relining. There's a small fleck of paint loss in the lower right corner, but otherwise, no damages are apparent. The paint surface is generally sound, if a little thin in the background scene and in the orange flower. The other flowers are very nicely preserved. The paint surface is under a slightly dirty varnish. There's a small area of retouching to the upper left, and some small retouches can be made out in the stone cartouche and plinth. Inspection under UV light further reveals a few tiny retouches in the background scene, and only very minimal strengthening in a few of the flowers.
Offered in a plain wood frame in good condition.
