Description

  • A winter scene with numerous figures skating on the ice, outside the city walls
  • oil on panel

Provenance

Bruno Wenzel, Breslau (according to a label on the reverse).

Exhibited

Breslau, Gemälde-Ausstellung Bruno Wenzel, no. 13900 (as anonymous).

Condition

The catalogue illustration is representative for the actual painting. The thick single panel is flat and stable and reinforced to the reverse with two vertical strips of wood. No damages are apparent. The paint layer is secure and under a fairly clear layer of varnish. A few tiny retouched paint losses can be made out in the sky. Inspection under UV light reveals a few tiny additional scattered retouchings and a larger area of retouching in the sky in the centre. The figures appear generally well preserved. Overall, in good condition. Offered in a decorative gilt wood frame with moulded borders in good condition.
