together with a verona marble portrait relief of Lady Aylesbury, mounted on red velvet in an oval ebonised wood frame
Provenance
Bequeathed by the artist, as part of her studio, in 1828 to her cousin Louisa Campbell, daughter of Lord William Campbell and wife of Sir Alexander Johnston, Chief Justice of Ceylon(1775-1849);
By descent to Louisa Charlotte Campbell Johnston, who married Sir William Trollope,10th.Bt., in 1894;
Thence by family descent to the present owners
Condition
Overall the condition of the terracotta is good. There is wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age including minor chips and nicks along any edges.
Overall the condition of the marble is good. The marble was left largely rough. There are some remnants of plaster along the edges. The velvet of the frame is worn and discouloured. There is a wire for mounting to the reverse.

with a note on the reverse inscribed: Unfinished head of Ladt Aylesbury. By her daughter Ann Seymour Conway = Honble John Damer \ Lady Aylesbury was the widow of Charles Bruce Earl of Aylesbury and daughter of John 4th Duke of Argyle. Married in 1741 Honble Harry Seymour Conway. Ann Seymour Conway married Hoble John Damer oldest son of Lord Wilton who later became Earl of Dorchester. John Damer's mother was the Lady Caroline Sackville daughter of the 1st Duke of Dorset. See ancestral records. Notebook III
