Description
- Thomas Weaver
- a bay horse tethered to a tree in a landscape
- oil on canvas
Condition
STRUCTURE
The canvas has a firm lining.
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be relatively good condition. There is retouching to two old vertical tears in the centre of the painting, running through the body of the horse, and there is a small area of unstable craquelure in the lower right, with one small associated chip of paint loss. There are two further, very small paint losses in the upper right and upper left of the painting.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light reveals a wash of over paint throughout the sky in the upper centre and right. There is also scattered retouching overall.
FRAME
Held in a gold painted wooden frame.
