Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been lined. PAINT SURFACE The painting appears to be in very good condition. There is a fine craquelure overall and evidence of a very finely demarcated stretcher bar line just visible at the top and bottom of the canvas. There is no apparent damage or loss of paint, and the pigments have remained fresh and vivid. ULTRAVIOLET Examination under ultraviolet light reveals evidence of a very uneven layer of varnish overall. There are a few very minor retouchings to the background but that apart the canvas and pigments have remained intact and well preserved. FRAME Held in a gold painted plaster and wood frame.
