Catalogue Note
Another almost identical version is in the Koninklijk Museum, Antwerp (see G. Marlier, 'L'Atelier du MaƮtre du Fils Prodigue' in Jaarboek van het Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten, 1961, p. 97). Wurfbain (see literature) convincingly argued for the primacy of the present version on several grounds, including the virtuosity of the underdrawing revealed by the infra-red reflectology.
