Description

  • Vanitas with four scenes: death rising from a tomb, two figures in hell and a saint in heaven
  • Gouache with touches of gum arabic;
    inscribed in each quarter in gray wash: Pensez y bien

Condition

The vellum is laid down on an old board, and has been backed in the 19th (?) Century with the remains of an old letter (in French). There is some slight abrasion at the edges of the sheet but otherwise it is in very good condition, the gouache still strong. Sold in an attractive carved and gilded frame.
