Catalogue Note

The painting by Van der Heyden, which this beautiful watercolor records, is in a private collection.1  In the second half of the 18th century a fashion developed for exquisite watercolour copies of 17th-century paintings, and examples of this type of work are known by most of the leading Dutch draughtsmen of the period, such as Aert Schouman and Jacob Cats.2
