Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been lined. PAINT SURFACE The painting appears to be in good condition, though it is thin in places, predominantly in the hair and in the background. There is however no apparent damage or extant loss of paint. There is one small area of old damage in the upper right and there is a dirty and discoloured varnish overall. ULTRAVIOLET Examination under ultraviolet light reveals minor retouching to the flesh tones of the faces and hands, as a result of stabilizing to old minor flaking, and there are a few further scattered very minor retouchings in the background. FRAME Held in a gilded wooden frame.
