Catalogue Note
Denis Dighton exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1811 and 1825. In 1815, as the inscription on each of these drawings indicates, he was appointed Military Draughtsman to H.R.H. The Prince Regent (1762-1830). He visited the battlefield of Waterloo only days after the event and made a series of studies, several of which are now in the Royal Collection. In 1816 he exhibited a large canvas at the Royal Academy entitled The Battle of Waterloo: The General Advance of the British Lines (Plas Newydd, Anglesey).
