Condition

John William Edge, View of the River Thames, London, with St. Paul's Cathedral and Blackfriars Bridge beyond: The watercolour pigments have faded slightly and there has been some minor discolouration to the sheet. There are six skilfully executed repairs to this sheet; these can largely be found to the left of the composition. Located within the sky there are four scratches, the largest of these is to the right hand side of the image and measures circa 140 mm. The sheet has not been laid down. John Thirtle (Norwich 1777-1839), Beached Fishing Boats: This watercolour has been carefully presented. Although the image is still strong, some of the more delicate watercolour pigments have faded somewhat. At the point where the two sheets have been joined there is a white/grey virticule line visbile. Along the top left hand edge of the sheet there is a very small area of paper loss. The sheet has been laid down. Attributed to Samuel Owen (1768-1857 Sunbury), Fishermen going out to their Boats in High Seas: Overall this watercolour has been well preserved. Some of the more delicate watercolour pigments have faded slightly and the paper has suffered from very minor discolouration. There is some very minor surface dirt and there are one or two tiny foxmarks. The sheet has not been laid down.
