Catalogue Note
Jordaens executed five paintings of Susanna and the Elders, now in Brussels, Copenhagen, Berlin, Lille and Verona. There is another drawing by Jordaens of this subject in the Louvre.2 This study relates more closely in composition to the painting in Copenhagen and to the drawing in the Louvre, but is sketchier in its handling than the more finished Louvre version.
