Catalogue Note

Hendrik Johannes (Henri) Knip was the youngest member of a large family of artists.  He seems to have travelled to Switzerland and Italy around 1833, with his father Mattheus Derk.  Swiss views comprise the major part of his work.  This example is similar in style and format to a View of a Watermill, signed by his father (see De Familie Knip, exhib. cat., Zwolle, Noord-Brabantsmuseum, 1968, p. 62).
