Condition
The catalogue illustrations are representative for the actual paintings.
The male portrait consists of 2 vertical planks, and the join is slightly visible to the front. The female portrait consists of one single plank. There's a thin restored vertical split, of approx. 10 cm. running from the lower edge through the centre. Both panels are uncradled, flat and stable.
The paint layers are secure, if a little thin in the faces, but in both paintings there's a lot of detail nicely intact, particularly in the collars, necklace and the headdress. There are a few minor discoloured retouches in the background upper left, in het chin and lip in the female portrait. Both paint surfaces are under a slightly dirty and dull varnish layer. Inspection under UV light reveals in both paintings only very few tiny scattered retouches, and some minmial strengthening of the contours of the eyes of the woman.
Offered in plain wood frames with a moulded fillet in good condition.
