Condition
STRUCTURE
The panel consists of two separate sections, joined vertically. It is in good condition and is providing a flat and stable support for the picture
PAINT SURFACE
The painting appears to be in generally good condition. There is one vertical crack running down the picture, left of centre, where the panels join, with some minor associated paint loss, and related visible minor retouching. There is a fine craquelure in the flesh tones and some minor infilling to craquelure in the background, upper right.
ULTRAVIOLET
Examination under ultraviolet light confirms the above condition and reveals a thick old discoloured and opaque varnish overall.
FRAME
Held in a carved and gilded frame.
