Description
- The Pseudo Battaglioli
- a capriccio coastal landscape with figures beneath ruins
- oil on canvas
Provenance
In the collection of the family of the present owner for at least four generations.
Condition
The painting is slightly greener in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is in largely good condition and secure, though a little dirty and under a yellowed and uneven varnish. No major damages to the work are apparent though the margins are a little uneven due to old restored frame abrasion. Retouchings along the margins and sky have become discoloured and are therefore visible to the naked eye. Inspection under UV light does reveal some scattered spot retouchings across the sky and water, but further retouchings may be masked by the aforementioned reflective varnish, which prevents a proper inspection. Offered in a gilt wood frame in fair condition.
