Description
- Jakob Bogdány
- A still life of roses and other flowers in a metal vase on a marble ledge

- oil on canvas
Provenance

With Frost & Reed, London, until October 1969.
With Frost & Reed, London, until October 1969.
Condition
The canvas has been relined.
The paint surface is somewhat flat, though the colours and detail of the work are well preserved. The paint surface is clean and secure under an old uneven varnish.
To the naked eye no major damages to the work are apparent. An old restored area of paint loss, measuring 1 by 3cm., is visible upper left due to the discolouration of the retouchings. Some scattered retouchings to the two uppermost leaves of the flower arrangement have also become slightly discoloured.
Inspection under UV light is restricted by the reflective varnish but does confirm the aforementioned retouchings and reveals further retouchings along the left hand and lower right hand margins, a horizontal stretch of retouching approximately 10cm. long lower right, and more concentrated retouching to the background and marble ledge around the flowers. Older scattered spot retouchings fluoresce in the flower arrangement, focusing mainly on the red rose at centre, the left hand white and the right hand pink primroses and the vase. The retouchings have been sensitively applied.
Offerd in a carved gilt wood frame in fairly good condition though rubbed.
