Condition

The catalogue illustration is much too red in tone. The support consists of three horizontal planks which are flat and uncradled and bevelled on all four edges. The painting has fairly recently been cleaned and restored and is in good overall condition. There has been quite extensive but careful retouching in much of the sky to the left and extreme right, presumably to disguise areas of wear. The landscape elements appear to be very well preserved indeed , with restoration confined to the ends of the lower join and minor local retouchings around the bridge and the nymphs only. The retsoration has been well carried out and has not discoloured and the varnish layer remains clear and even, so the picture should not require further attention. Offered with a cut down ebonised wood frame, some traces of old worm.
