Description

  • Portrait of a young boy, half length, his hand resting on a ledge beside an open book
  • oil on canvas

Exhibited

Milan, Palazzo Reale, L´Arte delle Donne dal Rinascimento al Surrealismo, 5 December 2007 - 9 March 2008.

Condition

The catalogue illustration is much too contrasted and much too red in tone. The paint surface is generally quite well preserved though beginning to wear a little thin in a few isolated areas. There is a restored damage to the right of the boy’s face approximately 5 by 3 cm., some further restored damage at the centre right margin in the background and further very minor restored damages to the lower right background. There are some localised areas of tiny spot retouchings notably on the boy’s face, though these are very minor in nature, and to his right sleeve and fingers. There is also some strengthening within the folds of the sleeve of his left sleeve. Under UV light: The varnish impedes proper inspection of the background. Sold with a later gilt frame.
