Catalogue Note

Heyden's translation of selections from Pliny the Elder's Natural History, illustrated with a series of exceptionally fine woodcuts by German artists of the period, was intended for the use of apothecaries and the general public in the best tradition of the Volksbücher.

Heller's Neuw Jag unnd Weydewerch Buch is one of the earliest German books on hunting, falconry and fishing; many of the lively woodcuts are by the celebrated Swiss artist Jost Amman.
