4to (230 x 165mm.), title within woodcut border, oval woodcut portrait of Alberti on verso of title, woodcut illustrations and diagrams (one double-page, one folding) in text, contemporary panelled calf with owner's initials "A.M." divided by fleuron in gilt on covers, author's name in gilt on upper cover, spine gilt in compartments, slight dampstaining, minor worming in first and last leaves, upper margins of several pages restored, binding slightly rubbed

The first quarto edition of Bartoli's translation, previously printed in two folio editions of 1550 and 1565. The woodcuts are reduced and reversed copies of those of the folio edition.
