Catalogue Note

The present work possibly depicts Cedric Morris, with whom Dobson was well acquainted. The long face, prominent left ear and wavy, swept-back hair certainly resemble photographs and paintings of Morris around the period (see N. Jason, op.cit., 1994, fig.13, p.47 and Tate Gallery exhibition catalogue, Cedric Morris, March-May 1984, cat. no.44, illustrated p.34, Self Portrait).

We are grateful to Neville Jason for his kind assistance with the cataloguing of this work.
