Description

  • gold, emerald, ruby, diamond, enamel, diadem
A combination of two styles, the diadem decorated with table-cut white sapphires and applied with various colors of enamel depicting a floral motif of Indian origin, the center section of Qajar style applied with enamel flowers, the reverse depicting dancing girls, the front set with foil-backed cabochon emeralds, cabochon rubies and rose-cut and table-cut diamonds, internal circumference 21 inches, four white sapphires missing.

Condition

Please note that the colorless stones set into the baseband appear to be a mixture of topaz, quartz and sapphire. As noted, four of the colorless stones are missing. An additional panel set with a colorless stone has since become detached but remains with the piece. Another panel is partially detached. The diadem is fragile and should be handled with care. Significant enamel loss to the front of the central panel (as seen in catalogue illustration) with areas of the base metal exposed. The reverse of the panel bears moderate enamel loss to the foliage with the female portraits remaining in good condition. Moderate loss to the enamelwork on the interior of the baseband. Evidence of repair to the enamel throughout, somewhat inexpertly applied. The rubies and emeralds are decorative in quality and probably foil-backed to enhance their color. One ruby chipped (possibly original to the piece). Oxidation to the metal throughout, particularly evident through the foil-backed stones of the baseband.

Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
