Sapphire and diamond pendant, mid 19th century

Of girandole design, centring on cushion-sapphire in a cut down collet, decorated with scroll, floral and foliate surrounds set with fancy- and cushion-shaped, single and circular-cut diamonds, suspending three pendants similarly set, case, sapphire may be a later addition.

Metal tested as silver and gold. Probably a necklace centre and later adapted. Sapphire a blue hue with good saturation of colour, minor typical crystal inclusions noticeable with the aid of a 10x lens but appears almost clean to the naked eye, few nicks and abrasions to the facet junctions. For further information on the sapphire, please refer to the Gübelin report. Diamonds bright and lively. Signs of normal wear to the metal, scratches consistent with age. Well preserved, in good condition.
