Condition
This painting has recently been restored. The canvas is unlined but the tacking edges have been reinforced. There is cracking to the paint layer but it is nonetheless stable and no further attention is recommended. The paint layer is clean and varnished and retouched.
The retouches address a few losses in the two masts of the ships in the center and on the left side and a handful of small other losses which have occurred in the most vigorous areas of impasto. Nonetheless the condition is very good, the painting has remained very lively and it should be hung as is.
