Description

  • spinel, diamond, platinum
The straight-line necklace composed of forty-one oval and cushion-shaped red spinels together weighing approximately 38.90 carats, spaced by brilliant-cut diamonds together weighing approximately 5.20 carats, mounted in platinum, length approximately 400mm.

Condition

Colour and Clarity: According to GRS report, all red spinels are natural, with no indication of thermal treatment. Please refer to the report for details. In our opinion, the spinels are of matching, strong red colour, eye clean and lively. Upon 10x loupe, a few stones may have some natural inclusions which are not noticeable to loupe check. Diamonds are about F to G colours, VS clarity. Condition: This necklace is offered without reserve. Platinum necklace mount, in very good condition.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

Accompanied by GRS report numbered GRS2011-071154, dated 6 July 2011, stating that the spinels are natural, of Burmese (Myanmar) origin, with no indication of treatments.
