Catalogue Note
William Suhr was born in Kreutzberg, Germany in 1896. He studied at the Royal Academy in Berlin, and it is at this time that he executed the present work.
Suhr went on to become a restorer of renown, eventually becoming the Chief Restorer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a position he held until his retirement. His work on Rembrandt's Polish Rider and the Brederode Altarpiece is still current.
