Condition

The wove paper is taped around all four edges of the verso with masking tape. The deckle edge is visible under this masking tape. There is some tape residue extending horizontally across the work in two central lines and around all four edges of the sheet. There are other minor studio stains to the verso. The recto has a small brown stain visible near lower left corner but otherwise the condition is very fresh and the colours remain bright. Colours: Overall fairly accurate in the printed catalogue, the colours are vibrant in the original and sheet tone is creamy.

Catalogue Note

'Dalí uses the wit and bite inherent to the print medium to great effect when he provokes the viewer's response, through the interplay of the fantastic and the surreal...to Les Songes drôlatiques de Pantagruel, a series of satirical illustrations originally published in the 16th century, Dalí adds his own imagery, fusing past and present in comic irreverence.'
